How to Set the Tone

To create an engaging meeting you have to set the right tone!

To create an engaging meeting you have to set the right tone!

Meetings require engagement to inspire attendees to put their great ideas out there. In this post I will share three ways to set the tone of the start of a meeting to create the right atmosphere.

The first question attendees want to know is “why is this meeting important?” Explain the WHY at the very top of the meeting.

Assume that you have brilliant people who don’t want to waste their time in your meeting. If you explain the WHY they will engage and bring their ideas and attention to the meeting.

The second step is to explain how you want them to engage. If you have activities, explain how they will work.

Finally, assure attendees that the results of the meeting will matter and action will be taken.

These steps will allow you to set the tone for a meeting full of engagement. The next post in this series will introduce the first activity that gets the creative juices flowing.
