What Are We Missing?

Last night I made myself and my husband a big mug of hot chocolate. I brought my husband his cup and both of us drank a sip at the same time. Mine was a tentative sip with anticipation of a hot drink. But the drink was cold. Confusion overtook my mind. Why was my hot chocolate cold?

My electric water boiler uses a little blue indicator to show that it is working. I was wearing my blue light blocking glasses as I made the drinks. The blue light blockers block the light indicating that the boiler was on. I wasn’t able to see that the light wasn’t on so assumed that the light was on and the boiler was working.

As I drank my cold hot chocolate I felt both humor at the situation and realized that there is a metaphor in this drink.

I began wondering what information we are missing by not meeting in person. We need to stay home to be safe, just like I had to wear my glasses to protect my eyes. But I missed important information and I think we are missing information when we meet only online too.
