Meeting Self Reflection Questions: How Many is too Many?

Have you ever come to the end of a week and wondered why you didn’t get all the work done you wanted to? If so, it might be time to review your weekly calendar to check if you have too many meetings on it!

Go through next week’s calendar and ask yourself the following questsions.

For status meetings: Am I required to be at this meeting? Do I need to report on something? Can I read the minutes afterwards and still be able to do my job properly?

For a working meeting: Are my skills or special knowledge required to make this meeting effective? Am I the only one who can provide my skill to this meeting? Does the work coming out of this meeting help me meet my goals?

For broadcast meetings: Can I watch this at a different time and still do my job? Is the information that will be shared critical? Can I read the summary?

For each one on one: Can this meeting wait till the following week? Is there a decision to be made that can’t wait? Do I need to learn something or strengthen this relationship right now?

Now ask yourself, what is missing from my week? Who should I be connecting with that I don’t have a meeting with? What working session needs to be held but isn’t scheduled yet? What else do I need to have my best week?

Another consideration is scheduling yourself time to do deep work. I suggest several blocks of hours per week.

If you have other self reflection questions you like to ask, please share them on either LinkedIn or FB where you found this post. I hope these questions help you set up your calendar for the best week of your life.
